Generalitа

Petunias are known for the beauty of flowers, to be cultivated in pots or planters. The genus Petunia includes 40 species of herbaceous plants, annual or perennial, mostly native to South America.
They develop large bushes, densely branched, 25-60 cm tall, often presenting prostrate or hanging stems; the leaves, light green in color, are covered by a very thin hair, to the touch they are slightly sticky, and give off a characteristic scent

The flowers

With a tubular corolla, they are solitary and supported by terminal or axillary peduncles. They present the full range of colors, from white to pink, from purple to blue. The tubular portion of the corolla is almost straight, while its margin is broad and five-lobed.
The flowering, very abundant, lasts from the middle of spring to the middle of autumn. There are many hybrids and cultivars on the market, including double flowers or jagged corollas or wrinkled-looking corollas.

Petunia: Dwarf petunias

Very popular among fans of petunias there are the so-called petunias dwarf, plants appreciated above all for the compact dimensions and for the very intense color of their flowers. The dwarf petunias in reality they are calibrachoe, plants always of the species of the solanace which however produce flowers much smaller than those of luxuriant petunias.
The dwarf petunias they are grown and sold in small baskets ("basket") that are hung on porches and windowsills.
These plants are grown as annuals throughout Italy but their flowering is abundant and luxuriant throughout the warm season. The dwarf petunias are particularly recognizable because of their very bright colors ranging from canary yellow to orange to violet and lilac.
In addition to the ornamental aspect, these plants are very appreciated because they are very resistant to diseases and at the moment there are no insects or other specific pathologies of this variety, which is therefore preferred to more delicate plants such as geraniums.
